The news of the imprisonment of the former president Michel Temer (MDB) on Thursday morning (21/03) caught everyone by surprise, but was expected by those who have denounced his negotiations to apply an austerity plan on the working class since he illegitimately seized power in 2016. The Outsourcing Law, the Labor Reform and the Constitutional Amendment are only some of the worst attacks promoted by Temer, his ministers and corrupt allies in the Chambers and the Federal Senate, which must be revoked after his arrest.
We must also remember that Temer tried everything to pass the pension reform but was defeated by the people on the streets, and that now his successor, Jair Bolsonaro, tries to “complete the task”. The imprisonment of Temer and Moreira Franco, another old fox of the corrupt right, must intensify the struggle against Bolsonaro´s “reform” and the cases of corruption that involve the party of the current president (like the so-called “orange grove of the PSL”) must be remembered in the mobiliziatios of the 22nd. Enough with the corrupt politicians attacking the rights of the people!
At the same time, we must say that we have no illusions in the Lava-Jato Operation, which is nothing but an instrument of the Brazilian bourgeoisie to save this rotten system from the anger of the people, that took the streets in 2013 in an unprecedented revolt against the political caste of the country. The imprisonment of Temer, Moreira Franco and other corrupt politicians and businessmen is important but won’t solve the issue of corruption, which is intrinsic to the capitalist system.
Now is the time to strengthen the struggle in defense of social security and demanding the immediate reversal of the anti-people measures of the corrupt government of Michel Temer.
