Lukashenko, the dictator of Belarus for 26 years, has launched a political hunt against his opponents. Confident in the huge repressive apparatus with which he has controlled the country for years, Lukashenko launched an electoral call in the midst of the pandemic, seeking to demonstrate a certain “normality” and confirming his denial and irresponsible attitude towards the COVID-19 crisis.
The attack blew up in his face, as tens of thousands have signed petitions to be o support candidates in the elections. Many of them are independent, tired of the regime´s impunity, which has added numerous economic problems to the repressive atmosphere that are increasingly affecting the Belarusian working people.
Massive arrests, smear campaigns and all kinds of repressive maneuvers make up the dictator’s response to this mass expression against his regime. As always, its main target are the workers and the poor, although it is also undermining bourgeois opponents who seek to challenge it for power.
Faced with this situation, the International Socialist League has been carrying out various actions to repudiate the repression, demanding the release of all political prisoners and, of course, supporting the need to end Lukashenko´s terror regime. We publish here some images of the first actions carried out in Barcelona and Buenos Aires.
