Upon leaving Buenos Aires Criminal Court No. 8 after the verdict with his acquittal was read, leftist leader of the MST-FITU and coordinator of the International Socialist League Alejandro Bodart said: “This acquittal is a very important victory. They failed to silence us. With the extraordinary defense of my attorneys María del Carmen Verdú and Ismael Jalil, the qualitative contributions of all our witnesses and the enormous solidarity we received from across the country and internationally, I was acquitted in this instance. This is an enormous achievement against the gag order that Zionism and its lackeys want to impose on the defense of the Palestinian cause.”
Bodart added: “It is a ruling that recognises that defending the just cause of the Palestinian people and denouncing the genocide unleashed by the State of Israel is not a crime, but an obligation, in the framework of being able to exercise the legitimate right to freedom of expression without blindfolds or a muzzle. The DAIA tried to set a precedent that all of us who defend the Palestinian cause and denounce genocide could be judged under the false accusation of being anti-Semitic. They were unable to do so or prove any of these lies. Although Zionism will surely appeal the ruling, we now have a sentence that proves us right and we will make this achievement known. It is a victory for all who support the Palestinian people, and that is why we will fight with enhanced strength to continue demanding the end of the genocide the liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea.”
