By the Central Committee of Socialist Revolution – PSOL. ISL Brazil
On January 10, 11 and 12 we held the Unification Conference of the Socialist Alternative and Socialist Struggle currents, internal tendencies of the PSOL and sections of the International Socialist League, ISL.
The Opening Ceremony, held at the FETQUIM (Federation of Chemical Workers), in the city of São Paulo, was attended by delegates to our Conference from the states of Pará, Ceará, Federal District, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo and Paraná.
We received videos with internationalist greetings from our comrades of the ISL from different countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Lebanon, Kenya, United Kingdom, Spain, France, Nicaragua, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Paraguay, which were played at the beginning of the event. Glauber Braga, Federal Representative of the PSOL, also sent his greetings, regretting that he could not be present on this occasion. Social and union leaders of the Social Pastoral of São Paulo, of the Chemicals Union of SJC, of the board of directors of the São Paulo Subway Union and teachers took the floor. Besides leaders of the left, comrades of the MRT, GOI and comrades of the PSOL, Israel Dutra and Frederico Henriques of the MES leadership and João Machado of the Commune. The event closed with speeches by Veronica O’Kelly and Douglas Diniz, of the National Leadership of Socialist Revolution, and Alejandro Bodart, of the International Secretariat and the Socialist Workers Movement (MST) of Argentina.
The road to unification began some time ago because of a fundamental confluence, we all understand that today, more than ever, without the existence of a strong revolutionary party, the conquest of power by the exploited and the construction of socialism, the socialist revolution, is unimaginable. This is our strategy, our main challenge, and today we are stronger to face it.
Internationalism, the only road to revolution
The ISL was the initial meeting point. This recent international project that recovers the history and tradition of revolutionary internationalism of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Trotsky, united us. In the ISL, one of the main definitions is precisely the constant search for confluences that unify revolutionaries. Without ignoring the differences that exist in the revolutionary left, the task is that the convergences result in the construction of a revolutionary leadership in the world.
Unlike other international currents, we see a world full of struggles, uprisings, rebellions and revolutions of the peoples responding to the attacks of the capitalist governments. The emergence of extreme right-wingers who are running for and disputing more or less important sectors in each place, is a phenomenon of social polarization that is deepening in the present stage. The systemic crisis of capitalism tightens the scenario, leaving little margin to the bourgeois governments that need to apply their agendas of cuts and austerity, going against the conquests of the working class and the poor people. The masses reject these governments and go against their institutions and all this farce of bourgeois democracy, because these are their enemies, even those who with progressive speeches try to confuse and discipline the anger of the people who rise up. This is how the extreme right emerges at one pole and the rise of the mobilization at the other.
That is why today, more than ever, the socialist revolution is a necessity and the construction of revolutionary parties, as a tool to use, is an urgency.
In Brazil, a Broad Front government that does not give us any illusion
The electoral defeat of Bolsonaro was an accomplishment of the exploited and oppressed majorities of Brazil. But we well know that the opportunity to permanently defeat this far-right project in the great Fora Bolsonaro rallies in 2021 was pushed to the electoral path. This opportunity was stopped by the betrayal of the PT, of Lula and of the entire left of the regime that channeled the mobilization against the genocidal government towards institutionality. That is to say, they disciplined the mobilization, the only real alternative to defeat the extreme right, and strengthened the institutions of the bourgeois democratic regime with the “Lula 2022” policy.
We have no illusions with the current government; the Lula-Alckmin government is not our government but the government of the businessmen who will try, sooner or later, to implement the pending agenda of dismantling and unpopular counter-reforms. We do not have, nor do we sow expectations in the political will of this government to solve the real problems suffered by workers, women, LGBTQIA+ diversities, black people, indigenous people and the youth. That is why we call all those who want to defend their conquests and fight for more, to fight this battle together and to build a real left and socialist political alternative.
Fight for an independent PSOL
Socialist Revolution will continue to defend the founding project of the Socialism and Freedom Party, the party we built. Our unification is at the service of strengthening the radical left that is facing the elimination of the founding project by the majority leadership of the PSOL. The unification of our currents is also a bet to interrupt this process and recover the PSOL for the anti-capitalist struggle, with class independence and a socialist program.
We know that we are not alone. We know that there are more comrades, organized in currents or militating independently, who do not agree with the destructive path adopted by the majority leadership. It is to these men and women that we turn to tell them that we are still in time, we can still avoid the elimination of the PSOL, we have to unify our forces and strike like a fist before it is too late.
Meet Socialist Revolution
A tool at the service of the construction of the revolution and socialism is born. Our project begins by reviewing the sectarian errors that unfortunately delay and cause much disappointment in the left vanguard, as well as the opportunist errors that lead the organizations to the inert path of bourgeois institutionality, elections and parliamentarism as an end in itself. What we are doing is only the beginning of a unity that can be much greater, that can grow and strengthen to the extent that we are able to open ourselves to work with diversity, democracy and firmness on the principles of revolutionary and internationalist socialism. Come with us to build Socialist Revolution!
