Solidarity is not negotiable

No one refers to the good or bad of the actions of the Rector in office. The complacent left remains silent. This passivity explains the stage of counterrevolution in which we find ourselves after the resounding defeat of the strike. Meanwhile, the regime advances unchecked in its neo-liberal adjustment plan, obeying the dictates of capital and external impositions.
The gringos exert pressure, moved by the desire to contain the growing influence of Chinese imperialism in the country, and in the face of this, silence is almost absolute. But complicity has a limit: those who finance and sponsor the genocide of the Palestinian people cannot have an unpunished presence in our academic spaces. For this reason alone, a clear response should have been organized, actions of direct rejection against Yankee interference in the University of Panama.
These actions must be promoted in a unitary manner, in conjunction with the entire popular, student and union movement, and with all the people and organizations that stand firm in the Palestinian cause and in the anti-imperialist struggle.
In the past, the University of Panama was a vanguard in the anti-imperialist struggle for the defense of national sovereignty and the recovery of the Panama Canal, confronting with dignity the policies of the U.S. establishment. It was also in solidarity with the causes of the peoples oppressed by the Yankee empire, including the Palestinian cause. However, today, in the face of the massacre, extermination and genocide of civilian children, women and men in Gaza, the true character of its current administration and its ideological allies, marked by lukewarmness, political calculation and subordination to power, is laid bare.
