The coordinated bombardment of Iran by iUS mperialism and Zionism has begun. Under the nuclear pretext, the offensive expresses broader geopolitical interests. Iran announced that it is preparing responses. The Middle East marks a new leap in the escalation of war. We repudiate the aggressions of the US and Israel, without implying support for the reactionary and repressive regime of the Ayatollahs. We call for international mobilization to stop the aggressors.

Coordinated offensive

Against the backdrop of Trump’s previous threats and Netanyahu’s pressure to attack, on February 28 the US and the State of Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran. Explosions hit areas near government and military installations. The offensive, cynically presented by Israel as “preventive”, included aerial bombardments and missiles on targets in Tehran and other strategic areas. Among the crimes that are beginning to come to light, Israeli shells on an elementary school in the city of Minab killed more than 50 girls.

The U.S. president confirmed that it is a “major combat operation” aimed at destroying Iranian military capabilities, especially linked to missiles and the nuclear program. The attack comes after months of imperialist military build-up in the region and after a previous attack in 2025 against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iranian warnings

The authorities had already anticipated that any attack would trigger retaliation against US bases in the region and Israeli targets. Following the bombings, the clerical regime closed the country’s airspace and activated defense protocols, while Israel followed suit, fearing missile and drone attacks.

The immediate scenario is one of escalating retaliation: indirect attacks by means of allied forces in the region (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq) or even a direct confrontation on a larger scale. Of course, threats, aggressions and reprisals do not exclude the possibility of negotiation, stick and carrot are an intrinsic part of the policy of imperialist domination in a dynamic that does not exclude the methodologies of the regime of the ayatollahs.

Trump’s counterrevolutionary motivations

It is well known that the official discourse of the White House focuses on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and eliminating “imminent threats”. However, behind this justification, several factors are combined, such as: reaffirming US hegemony in the Middle East, sustaining the strategic alliance with Israel, which is its regional gendarme, and attempting a change of authorities in Iran.

And it should be noted that Trump is also trying to deflect domestic tensions through an aggressive foreign policy as he is seriously challenged by the mobilizations and the rejection of his ultra-right policies.

The situation of the ayatollahs’ regime

The power of the Ayatollahs arrives at this crisis questioned and in a contradictory situation. On the one hand, it maintains military capacity and networks of regional influence. On the other hand, it faces harshly repressed internal protests, an economic crisis aggravated by international sanctions and growing isolation.

This relative weakness coexists with a strong nationalist, anti-imperialist and anti-Zionist rhetoric that may push the regime to respond in order not to show fragility.

Repercussions and volatile outlook

After the cheating “peace” agreement between the US, Israel and Hamas that harms Palestine, the risk of regional war involving several countries, the threat to energy infrastructures in the Gulf, the increase in the price of oil and tension in global markets is increasing.

Nearby, on Friday morning, a Pakistani offensive against Afghanistan, dubbed “Operation Righteous Fury”, was launched, allegedly in response to Afghan attacks near the border. These actions put an end to the cease-fire agreed in October by the two countries with the mediation of Qatar.

It also increases the pressure on US allies in the region, the treacherous Arab governments always inclined to bow to the strategic designs of US imperialism and Zionism.

At the international level, Trump’s new world order project continues to spur disorder, with more crises, wars and tensions between the American, Chinese and Russian imperialisms that dispute for world hegemony or for zones of influence.

The outlook is uncertain, the immediate scenario is volatile and may have different developments and outcomes, direct or indirect Iranian retaliatory attacks, extension of the conflict to Lebanon, Syria or the Gulf, new waves of bombings by the US and Israel, interruptions in key energy routes and, as we have already stated, a negotiated solution.

Solidarity with the Iranian people

The warlike actions cannot be analyzed as a confrontation between “democracy” and “authoritarianism”, but as a direct aggression, therefore, we repudiate the bombings by the US and Israel against Iran, the complicity of the European Union and the traitorous Arab governments. We stand in solidarity with the attacked Iranian people, without implying any political support to the reactionary and repressive regime of the Ayatollahs.

For his part, Reza Pahlavi, the heir to the Iranian Shah, applauded the intervention which he described as “humanitarian”. In this sense, neither the fundamentalist regime of Ali Khamenei nor the monarchic restoration constitute a progressive leadership, it is necessary that the workers and the people govern, with their own organizations. It is in this perspective that it is indispensable to advance in the international regroupment of revolutionaries promoted by the International Socialist League (ISL), to build strong national revolutionary socialist parties.

The evolution of the global system and the transformations promoted by Trump show that capitalism and imperialism can only offer war, oppression and crisis. In the face of this, the revolutionary and socialist perspective in the Middle East becomes not only necessary, but urgent.

Stop US and Israeli imperialist aggression against Iran!
All our solidarity with the Iranian people!
No political support to the dictatorial regime of the mullahs!
