Israel cut off all telephone and internet communication in the Gaza Strip, unleashed the most intense bombardment since the beginning of the aggression and expanded its ground operation, entering the Strip with troops and tanks at several points and encountering stiff resistance. The UN called for an “immediate humanitarian truce.” Even pro-Israelis are forced to acknowledge that there are war crimes, that humanitarian aid is necessary, and mention the possibility of genocide. Governments hold conferences, people mobilize.
Friday, October 27
With deaths in Gaza reaching 7,500, Israel tonight began the fiercest attack since the start of the aggression. It cut off all telephone and internet service, leaving the Gaza Strip not communicated, in the dark and without water, medicine or food. The media, the WHO, UNICEF, the Red Crescent and various charitable organizations report having lost contact with their employees in the Strip.
Under these conditions, Israel unleashed a brutal bombardment on the Gazan population. More than 100 people were killed in the bombing of a residential tower west of Gaza City, in the Al-Shati neighborhood, that was housing displaced people. The Al-Shati camp and the proximity of the Indonesian and Al-Shifa hospitals have been bombed.
The bombardment that Gaza is being subjected to is unprecedented, and the catastrophe is that no one can determine the location of the attacks due to the interruption of communications. Ambulance crews in Gaza depend on the arrival of the first casualty at hospitals to know where the Israeli bombing sites are.
Israeli forces expanded their ground incursion, entering with tanks and troops through at least three crossings, resulting in violent clashes with the resistance in Beit Hanoun, east of Bureij, Beit Lahia and Jabalia. According to Hebrew website Wallah, the Israeli army received a devastating blow on the outskirts of the Bureij camp and Colonel Yair Shalam, who commanded the raid, was reportedly captured.
Hamas denied the Israeli accusation that they were using the hospitals as military bases and announced that at least 50 hostages have died as a result of the Israeli bombings.
In addition to the massacre in Gaza and the hundreds of deaths and thousands of detainees in the West Bank, the 20% of the Israeli population who are Arabs are living a nightmare. They denounce that persecution and discrimination increased after October 7 and that anyone who “does not support the war in Gaza is considered a subversive.”
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly approved by an overwhelming majority (120 votes in favor, 14 against and 45 abstentions) a non-binding resolution calling for an “immediate and lasting humanitarian truce” in the Gaza Strip and access for unhindered help to bring food, goods and essential services to the civilian population of the enclave.
Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, said: “We are concerned that war crimes are being committed. We are concerned about the collective punishment of Gazans in response to the atrocious attacks by Hamas, which also amounted to war crimes.“
After 6 hours of discussions, EU members agreed on a common declaration, centrally supporting Israel: condemning Hamas terrorism, calling for the unconditional release of the hostages, supporting Israel’s right to defend itself within international law and calls for promoting “all types of measures, including humanitarian corridors and pauses for humanitarian needs” to alleviate the “worrying” situation in Gaza. The “humanitarianism” of European and North American imperialism supports the genocidal colonialism of Israel, which does not demand that it stop occupying the lands of the Palestinians and massacring their people.
Biden said he is “alarmed” because some “extremist settlers” attack Palestinians in the West Bank. They have been doing it for more than 75 years. There are 900 US troops who have already been deployed or are in the process of doing so, in the area of operation of the US Central Command (Centcom) that operates in the Middle East, Central Asia and parts of South Asia.
At a meeting in Moscow, Russia asks Hamas to release foreign hostages. Putin’s position ranges from friendship with Israel to pro-Palestinian statements, including special relations with Iran and Syria; that is why he affirms that Russia can mediate the conflict “since he doesn’t play along with anyone.”
Faced with Israel’s genocidal escalation, mobilizations broke out throughout the Arab world and internationally.
