Israeli attacks and threats continue. Mobilizations continue to demand against genocide and for humanitarian aid.

Rejection of Trump’s cheating deal with Israel

The International Declaration: “International Declaration: For a Free Palestine from the River to the Sea. No to Trump and Israel’s cheating agreement” expresses a clear position of rejection of Donald Trump’s plan for Palestine, approved by Israel and Hamas, and proposes a strategic political solution. The zero kilometer of the pact is marked by the ceasefire sign, the starting point of a long and intricate road, divided into sections that can only be overcome if there is reciprocity between the parties; therefore, it is necessary to refer to its compliance so far.

Israel: genocidal and serial ceasefire violator

Since the beginning of hostilities two years ago, two truces were signed. The first came into force on January 19, 2025 and ended openly on March 18 of the same year, when Israel resumed bombing and military operations. The second ceasefire, the product of a Trump-driven pact, went into effect on October 10, 2025, following approval by the Israeli government. Israel’s modus operandi is always similar: it accepts agreements when it suits it tactically, but never gives up its strategic objectives. It uses them as a way to buy time or improve its conditions for continued aggression.

They continue to kill and draw threatening “yellow lines”.

On October 13, the exchange began with partial releases: Israel freed some Palestinian prisoners and, the following day, Hamas handed over hostages dead and alive. On October 17, Israel announced the demarcation of a “yellow line” in Gaza following operations in which it killed more than twenty Palestinians. This military demarcation reflects the limited nature of the IDF’s withdrawal: its threatening presence remains intact and, while supposedly aimed at creating “safe zones” or destroying Hamas structures, in reality it prolongs the genocide against the Palestinian people. On October 19, Israel bombed southern Gaza after accusing Hamas of shooting at Rafah – an accusation Hamas denied – and again miserably suspended the entry of humanitarian aid.

As befits the deal’s duplicitous logic, the US did not vigorously restrain Israel. It merely called for “proportionate responses”, while encouraging pressure on Hamas resulting in death and starvation for defenseless civilians, combining support and pressure on Netanyahu.

Ongoing West Bank annexation and more bombings

The Knesset (Israeli Parliament) preliminarily approved the bill to annex the West Bank, an issue that motivated a threat from Trump to withdraw his support if the annexation goes forward, since not doing so was one of the commitments of imperialism to the Palestinian leadership. The shaky ceasefire, violated by Israel, also prompted thousands of Palestinians to risk their lives crossing the wall to enter Israel to work.

On October 28 Netanyahu called an emergency meeting over what he unilaterally considered a “failed hostage handover” and “staged discovery” of bodies of hostages they themselves killed in Gaza and resumed shelling. On October 29, the Israeli army terminated its second cease-fire violation and announced that it was resuming the implementation of the truce after hitting “dozens of terrorist targets”, which in reality amounted to 100 civilians killed, including 35 children.

Predictable mechanics, uncertain outcome

So far, a predictable mechanics has unfolded: each incident serves as an opportunity for Israel to accuse Hamas of breaking the truce and act militarily; Hamas responds by denouncing aggression and denying breaches in areas where local militias operate. The US acts as a bought arbiter that presents itself as an authority, but blatantly favors Zionism.

The facts show that Trump’s plan is in trouble, not only because of the current factors, but also because of the structural causes that sustain it: occupation, colonialism, economic blockade and Zionist militarization that remain intact. The course of events will tell if the agreement is partially or fully implemented, or if it ends up blowing up.

Solidarity mobilized has continued

Trump’s cheating agreement seeks to appease the huge worldwide process of mobilization in solidarity with Palestine, but in the first week following its signing, there were actions just the same.

On October 11, in London (UK), thousands marched from Victoria Embankment to Whitehall under the slogan “lasting peace in Gaza”, despite the announcement of the cease-fire. They denounced the failure of the agreement to address the structural problems of occupation and apartheid. On October 14, in Udine, Italy, more than 10,000 people gathered before the Italy-Israel World Cup qualifier, demanding that FIFA ban Israel.

On October 15, in Spain, different workers’ and students’ unions, together with political and social organizations, called for a day of strike and mobilizations, with confrontations, repression and arrests. The actions were particularly strong in Madrid and Barcelona. On October 18, in Valencia a symbolic mini Flotilla sailed through the Albufera. On October 21, the EU seized the moment to suspend the processing of sanctions against Israel, pointing out that the context had changed after the cease-fire and that there was no consensus among member states.

Below, there was no change of heart, so on September 22, in Rome, Milan, Bologna, Turin, Florence, Genoa and Livorno, among other Italian cities, thousands of people mobilized demanding “stop the hunger in Gaza”, the cessation of arms shipments to Israel and denouncing the genocide.

Everything that has happened reaffirms the need to continue the mobilization against genocide, for the immediate release of humanitarian aid and for the rupture of the governments with Israel. With the conviction that in order to achieve a just and lasting peace, it is necessary to defeat Zionism and establish a single, secular, non-racist, democratic and socialist Palestine.
