The political, trade and military pacts between Morocco and Israel point against Saharan self-determination and have regional consequences. Unity is necessary in the struggle of the peoples against the imperialist interests of exploitation and oppression.

The State of Israel and Morocco have long since reopened liaison offices in Tel Aviv and Rabat with the aim of converting them into embassies. Now they have taken a new step in their relationship. The Cabinet of the Royal Palace of Morocco made public a letter that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent to King Mohammed VI. The letter recognizes Morocco’s full sovereignty over Western Sahara. It also announces that it views “positively” the opening of an Israeli consulate in Dakhla, 550 kilometers from El Ayoun, i.e. in Saharawi territories.
Under the shadow of U.S. imperialism
It was Donald Trump who gave the guidelines for the recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. The current President Joe Biden ratified the policy of his predecessor. And they were followed by Pedro Sanchez, who abandoned Spain’s historic position for Saharawi self-determination to support Mohamed VI’s autonomy plan. Now it is the State of Israel which is moving the chessboard, planning to open a diplomatic representation and to appoint a military attaché. The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed that such decisions “will contribute to regional peace”, but they are real provocations which strain tempers.
Mutual recognition, businesses and weapons
The consolidation of the relationship between Morocco and the State of Israel takes place within the framework of the Abraham Accords, through which Tel Aviv applies a policy of rapprochement with Arab countries, under the tutelage of the U.S. The Kingdom of Morocco recognized Israel and the latter recognized Moroccan sovereignty over the Saharawi territories. Although they also established diplomatic, commercial and tourist ties, what stands out is the military relationship that allows Morocco to strengthen its positions against the Saharawis and to prepare for eventual confrontations with Algeria. The partnership with the genocidal state provides it with intelligence coordination, state-of-the-art drones and Pegasus software to spy on anyone.

Regional consequences
In the context of Israel’s dispute with Iran, Morocco’s partnership with Israel alters alliances in the Middle East and allows Zionism to establish itself more firmly in Africa, particularly in the Maghreb. And it is a clear message to the Spanish State, historically privileged in its relations with Morocco. A few days before the elections, Mohamed VI lets the next Spanish president know that he can count on a powerful support outside the relationship with his old colonialist power.
A historic betrayal
Welcoming Zionism in Africa with open arms is a historic betrayal of the Alaouite monarchy towards the Palestinian people and the Arabs who give their lives in the struggle against the colonialist gendarme of imperialism in the Middle East.
It is also an unforgivable betrayal to the sectors of the Moroccan population that feel twinned with Palestine. The pact is sealed at a time when the genocidal Israeli regime is bombing the Palestinians and deploying a reactionary offensive against political leaders and anti-Zionist activists, as is the case of Alejandro Bodart.
The unity of the peoples in struggle is necessary
We repudiate the Morocco-Israel agreements, under the umbrella of the powerful of the world: Out with the State of Israel and the imperialist powers of Africa! The Moroccan-imperialist autonomy plan aims to bury the Saharan rights, the only just way is the self-determination of Western Sahara. This can only be achieved through mobilization and struggle: Israel out of Palestine and Sahara! Stop the bombing of Palestine! No to the Israeli consulate in Saharan territory!
From the International Socialist League we express our support to the struggle of the Saharan and Palestinian peoples for their freedom. The triumph will be closer if international solidarity is developed and the unity of the African and Arab peoples with the mobilized workers is achieved. All on the road to defeating capitalism and achieving a fundamental solution: that the workers and socialism rule.
