Israel: “O Elefante no Basar”

Este é o título da carta aberta duramente crítica ao Estado Sionista que mais de mil intelectuais, acadêmicos e profissionais judeus dos Estados Unidos e de Israel-Palestina tornaram pública na semana passada e que reproduzimos aqui para informação dos nossos leitores..

Nós, acadêmicos e outras figuras públicas de Israel/Palestina e do estrangeiro, chamamos a atenção para a ligação direta entre o recente ataque de Israel ao poder judicial e a sua ocupação ilegal de milhões de palestinianos nos Territórios Palestinianos Ocupados (TPO). O povo palestiniano carece de quase todos os direitos básicos, incluindo o direito de votar e de protestar. Enfrentam violência constante: só este ano, as forças israelitas mataram mais de 190 palestinos na Cisjordânia e em Gaza e demoliram mais de 590 estruturas. Os vigilantes colonos queimam, saqueiam e matam impunemente.

Sem direitos iguais para todos, seja num Estado, em dois Estados ou noutro quadro político, existe sempre o perigo de uma ditadura. Não poderá haver democracia para os judeus em Israel enquanto os palestinos viverem sob um regime de apartheid, como descreveram os peritos jurídicos israelitas. Na verdade, o objetivo final da revisão judicial é reforçar as restrições a Gaza, privar os palestinos de direitos iguais, tanto fora como dentro da Linha Verde, anexar mais terras e limpar etnicamente todos os territórios sob Israel da sua população palestina. Os problemas não começaram com o atual governo radical: a supremacia judaica tem crescido há anos e foi consagrada na lei pela Lei do Estado-Nação de 2018.

Os judeus americanos estão há muito tempo na vanguarda das causas de justiça social, desde a igualdade racial até ao direito ao aborto, mas não prestaram atenção suficiente ao elefante no bazar: a ocupação de longa data de Israel que, repetimos, produziu um regime de apartheid. À medida que Israel se tornou mais de direita e caiu sob o feitiço da agenda messiânica, homofóbica e misógina do atual governo, os jovens judeus americanos tornaram-se cada vez mais alienados dela. Entretanto, os financiadores bilionários judeus americanos ajudam a apoiar a extrema direita israelita.

Neste momento de urgência e também de possibilidade de mudança, apelamos aos líderes dos judeus americanos – líderes de fundações, acadêmicos, rabinos, educadores – para:

1. Apoiar o movimento de protesto israelita, mas pedir-lhe que abrace a igualdade para judeus e palestinos dentro da Linha Verde e nos TPO.

2. Apoiar organizações de direitos humanos que defendem os palestinos e forneçam informações em tempo real sobre a realidade vivida da ocupação e do apartheid.

3. Comprometer-se a rever os padrões educacionais e os currículos das crianças e jovens judeus, a fim de fornecer uma avaliação mais honesta do passado e do presente de Israel.

4. Exigir aos líderes eleitos nos Estados Unidos que ajudem a pôr fim à ocupação, restrinjam o uso da ajuda militar dos EUA nos Territórios Palestinos Ocupados e acabem com a impunidade israelita na ONU e noutras organizações internacionais.

Não há mais silêncio. A hora de agir é agora.
