This Wednesday in Ecuador embassies and consulates ofdifferent countries of the world, actions and events promoted by our International Socialist League (ISL) and its sections were carried out in solidarity with the national strike and the popular resistance that confronts the repressive and austerity government of Daniel Noboa.

Mobilizations in multiple cities around the world are an internationalist response to the Ecuadorian government’s attempt to impose a brutal austerity package dictated by the IMF, accompanied by repression that has already killed, wounded and arrested hundreds of people. From Buenos Aires to Barcelona, through France or Costa Rica, militants and friend organizations of the ISL gathered in front of the Ecuadorian diplomatic headquarters to denounce the criminalization of the protest and to support the struggle of the working people, indigenous people and the youth of Ecuador. In the coming days we will be sharing the other actions that have been carried out.

In Argentina, the main action took place in front of the Ecuadorian Embassy in Buenos Aires, where Alejandro Bodart, coordinator of the International Socialist League and member of the leadership of the MST, expressed his support for the demands of the mobilized people and against the repression and persecution of social organizations and union leaders such as Edwin Bedoya, among others. A protest was also held in front of the Ecuadorian Consulate in the province of Córdoba.

Words by Alejandro Bodart:

Similar actions were carried out in Spain, France, Costa Rica, Brasil and other countries to express in the streets active solidarity with the Ecuadorian rebellion and to denounce the authoritarian and pro-imperialist character of the Noboa regime. The simultaneous actions demonstrated that, in the face of capital attacks and government repression, international solidarity is not an empty slogan, but a concrete practice of organization and common struggle.

We must strengthen international pressure in defense of the Ecuadorian people, demand the release of the detainees, the immediate withdrawal of the repressive forces, a NO vote in Noboa’s referendum and reject the attempt to turn Ecuador into a banana republic. Long live the struggle of the Ecuadorian people! Down with Noboa and his plan of hunger and repression!
