Open letter to the President of the Republic,
Dr. Gustavo Petro Urrego
We ask you to break relations with the genocidal State of Israel!

Gustavo Petro Urrego
With deep indignation, we contemplate the brutal massacre, a true genocide, that the State of Israel is carrying out against the Palestinian people, especially against the inhabitants of Gaza.
We are witnessing a disproportionate and indiscriminate attack, which is attempted to be justified as legitimate defense against the actions carried out by Hamas; actions that, as the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, himself said, “did not happen out of nowhere,” adding that “The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation” and that the Palestinians “have seen their land steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence; their economy stifled; their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing.“
Mr. President, you have clearly differentiated yourself from the decades-long actions of the State of Israel against the Palestinian population. The voices of millions resound throughout the world pointing out how Israel’s actions clearly violate International Humanitarian Law and that this State and its government are committing war crimes. What can we do, beyond statements?
Those of us who sign below request an action that will be an example for dozens of governments and that will place you at the forefront of the global rejection of this genocide: Break all types of relations with Israel now! You yourself indicated, a few days ago, that you were willing to do so. Do it! Millions will applaud and support your decision. Internationally isolating the State of Israel and its current government is a measure that could be decisive in stopping the ongoing genocide. Every hour that passes is time wasted. Call on all democratic or progressive governments in the world to take the same action. That is what we ask you and what we expect from you, who has proclaimed himself a defender of life and who proclaims that Colombia is a world power of life.
With feelings of the greatest solidarity and deep pain in the face of the massacre of the Palestinian people, we hope our request will be attended to.
