At the beginning of February, the intervention of foreign troops ordered by the UN Security Council last October at the behest of U.S. imperialism would begin to arrive in Haiti. The first contingent would be of 300 policemen sent by the Kenyan government, in spite of the fact that there is a judicial ruling against it in that country. At the same time, on February 7, the mandate of the illegitimate Haitian interim president Ariel Henry, who requested military intervention, will expire. A “transition” is being prepared under UN control.
The military deployment for a period of one year, together with the domination of the political regime of Haiti by the imperialist powers and their “core group”, constitute a condemnable occupation and interference. It violates both the national sovereignty of the long-suffering country and the human right of the Haitian people to self-determination. Since its revolutionary independence in 1804, Haiti has suffered numerous foreign interventions, which have only aggravated misery, dependence and corruption, including MINUSTAH from 2004 to 2017.
In the face of this new military and imperialist political intervention, the undersigned organizations express our most categorical rejection and reaffirm our unconditional defense of the basic right of the working people of Haiti to freely and democratically decide their own destiny.
