At this dramatic moment in the history of the Palestinian Nakba, Israel is attacking yet another act of international solidarity: the Freedom Flotilla, which is sailing toward the Gaza Strip carrying activists from different parts of the world and essential humanitarian aid—food and basic supplies—for a population that has been under a criminal siege and facing an ongoing genocide for months. This past Friday, May 2, Israeli drones attacked the vessel in a clear attempt to stop it and prevent it from continuing its journey to Gaza.
The State of Israel, with the support of imperialist powers and the complicity of the so-called “international community”—dominated by Zionist politics and discourse—keeps Gaza under continuous bombardment and a total blockade, preventing the entry of water, food, medicine, and electricity. More than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, the majority of them women and children. Hospitals, schools, shelters, and food distribution centers have been deliberately targeted by Israel’s genocidal machinery.
In this context, the Freedom Flotilla represents not only a concrete act of aid but also a symbol of resistance and a denunciation of the criminal siege imposed on the Palestinian population. The attempt to stop these boats from reaching Gaza—as has happened before, even with deadly attacks—is further proof that Israel wants neither witnesses nor aid. It seeks the extermination of an entire people and aims to carry out what Trump and Netanyahu call “the final solution”: that is, an ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
We demand:
• Immediate ceasefire!
• Open the borders and allow humanitarian aid in!
• Stop the attacks on the Flotilla and on all those showing solidarity with the Palestinian people!
International solidarity is essential, and building it by involving workers, youth, and oppressed sectors around the world is an urgent task. But we must go further. It is necessary to support the peoples of the Middle East rising up not only against Zionism but also against the Arab regimes that, by negotiating with imperialism and maintaining ties with Israel, are complicit in the genocide in Gaza.
The only realistic and revolutionary way forward is for this struggle to become a new Arab Spring—one that defeats Zionism, imperialism, and the region’s reactionary governments. Only then can the path open to the only viable solution for the Palestinian people and for all Arab peoples: a single, democratic, secular, and socialist Palestine, as part of a Federation of Socialist Republics in the Middle East.
