Let’s make Gaza and the West Bank the Vietnam of Israel!
Horror adds to horror. The daily spectacle of Zionist barbarism in Gaza (and the West Bank) is an unacceptable provocation for anyone with a minimum sense of humanity. Added to the 60,000 Palestinians killed by bombardment are the deaths from hunger and disease, the ongoing and planned destruction of homes, the desperation of the aimless wandering of a huge mass of men and women left with nothing, forced to run under the bombs in search of an improbable ration of food cynically administered by the same occupying forces. Outrage at this scenario of death provoked by the terrorist state of Israel runs through much of the world’s public opinion. It is a leap of collective emotion.
European governments are now faced with the problem of containing and managing this growing indignation. That is why, after two years, they are beginning to babble, in hushed tones, words of disapproval towards Netanyahu, and even to consider a possible revision of the agreements between the European Union and Israel. Pure hypocrisy. The EU-Israel agreements are just a diplomatic wrapper that covers up the much more lucrative bilateral agreements between states and, moreover, even to revise that diplomatic wrapper, the impossible unanimity of EU governments would be necessary.
The truth is that the imperialist diplomacies seek to divert the indignation into a dead end, in order to hide the economic and military support that every imperialist state continues to supply Zionism with. The same support which for two years allowed Israel to unload 100,000 tons of bombs on two million people, that for two years upheld “the right of the State of Israel to defend itself against terrorism”, that is to say, to unleash its own colonial terror against the Palestinian people and their right to resist colonialism. The same support which for two years pursued the simple denunciation of colonialism as anti-Semitism (to the benefit, moreover, of genuine anti-Semitism).
As for Trump, his only concern is that Netanyahu’s war, past a certain threshold, could ruin American business in Saudi Arabia and the region. The persecution of pro-Palestinian activists on American campuses speaks for itself. As do Trumpist plans to deport Palestinians and the continuation of U.S. arming of Israel.
In this sea of disgusting hypocrisy, the Italian government also manages to stand out in its complicity with Zionism. Yesterday in Parliament, Meloni’s government defended the infamous memorandum ratified in 2005 on military cooperation between Italy and Israel.
“The renewal of the memorandum between the government of the Italian Republic and the government of the State of Israel on defense and military cooperation is, as noted by the Minister of Defense, scheduled for April 2026. For the reasons of diplomacy to prevail, it is necessary to build channels of communication, not to cut them” (Luca Ciriani, Minister for Relations with Parliament).
To whisper innocuous concerns in the ear of a terrorist state, it is “necessary” to continue to arm it, right? Even when that terror is increasingly indigestible in the eyes of the world. Shame on you!
The closeness of the right with Zionist environments also involves significant sectors of the so-called liberal opposition, from Italia Viva to Azione and numerous personalities of the PD. After all, hasn’t cooperation with the State of Israel been safeguarded and cultivated by all center-left governments, without exception (Prodi 1996-1998, D’Alema 1999-2000, Amato 2000-2001, again Prodi 2006-2008)? The same applies, of course, to the governments of Conte, who today plays the role of “pacifist”, and to the Draghi government.
Against the hypocrisy of all imperialist governments and states, against Italian imperialism and Meloni’s government, it is necessary to move from words to deeds.
The broadest mass mobilization against the ongoing massacre is necessary, far beyond testimonial initiatives.
All ties with Israel must be severed. Be it diplomatic, commercial or military.
It is necessary that the Italian labor movement and all its organizations, large and small, promote the embargo against Israel. In recent weeks, the dockworkers of Morocco, defying their own government, have activated the blockade of all trade with the Zionist state, paralyzing traffic with Tel Aviv. This is an example to be taken up and generalized.
Any Italian industrial-military group involved in collaboration with Israel, such as the Leonardo group, should be boycotted.
The anti-Zionist movement must be relaunched in universities.
We must make Gaza and the West Bank the Vietnam of Israel!
For the full right to self-determination of the Palestinian people
In support of the Palestinian resistance against the colonial state of Israel
For a united and free Palestine, from the river to the sea
For a secular and socialist Palestine
The Communist Workers Party, Italian section of the International Socialist League, will take these slogans to the June 21 national demonstration in Rome.
