Faced with Israeli crimes, European leaders express “concern” but prefer not to make Trump and Netanyahu uncomfortable. The mobilization points the way to solidarity with Palestine with the demand that governments break relations with the Zionist state.

Expressing concern and taking notes

In different areas, EU authorities express “concern” for human rights, but that does not imply taking action.

The European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU’s diplomatic arm, submitted a report noting Israel’s non-compliance with Article 2 of the Association Agreement with the EU, which requires bilateral relations to be based “on respect for human rights and democratic principles.”

Then, the Foreign Affairs representative, Kaja Kallas, announced that the issue will be discussed again in July, that they will contact Netanyahu to pass on the results of the report, hoping that he will “take measures to improve the humanitarian situation”. As if the executioner were uninformed and the victims had a normal life schedule!

Subsequently, at the European Council meeting they referred to the “indications” of crimes mentioned in the EEAS report and instead of taking action they advised that they “take note”.

These grotesque and hypocritical diplomatic performance makes fools of the millions of people who watch in horror as genocide is carried out in Gaza.

The double talk and humanitarianism emanating from the European Bloc stems from its retrograde colonialist heritage since “When imperialists speak of humanity, they do so like thieves who speak of morality; it is only to cover up their crimes with grandiloquent phrases.” Leon Trotsky, The War and the International, 1914.

Nuances hide a bigger agreement

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz defended inaction saying “We need good relations with Israel”. From another angle, Spanish President Pedro Sanchez called for the immediate suspension of the Association Agreement with Israel because “we have to say enough is enough to Netanyahu”.

Very well, however, he “forgot” to mention that Spain has only suspended new licenses since October 7, 2023, but continues to export with previous authorizations and maintains millionaire contracts with Israeli companies in military projects.

Beyond the differences between government representatives and the cynicism that characterizes them, they all share the same objective: to preserve internal consensus without questioning the root of the conflict, which is the existence of the State of Israel as a colonial enclave and gendarme of Western imperialism in the Middle East.

More deaths and conversations between criminals in the shadows

Meanwhile, the Israeli Army ordered the forced evacuation of northern Gaza warning that “they will act with great force” and that the attacks will “intensify, escalate and spread from the west towards the center.”

Last Sunday alone, between 21 and 23 Palestinians were killed by shelling and at least 66 children died of malnutrition due to the blockade and the limited inflow of humanitarian aid.

At the same time, according to the Israeli press, there are alleged contacts between Trump and Netanyahu to define the future of Gaza and to expand the Abraham Accords that establish the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab countries.

“War is nothing more than the continuation of politics by other means.”

Trump and EU leaders are not “peacemakers”, their actions combine “carrot and stick” tactics, understood as diplomatic initiatives coupled with threats or military actions.

The agreements and wars involving the US and the EU do not respond to the genuine interests of the peoples but to their own strategic interests of domination; that is why they do not lead to a just peace, but to the “peace” of impositions and cemeteries.

Mobilization is the only way

We call to deepen the unity of action in the mobilization, we demand the immediate lifting of the blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the cessation of Zionist bombings and the complete rupture of government relations with Israel.

Consistent humanitarianism includes the struggle against the imperialist capitalist system that perpetuates genocide, occupation, starvation and ethnic cleansing; and confronting its main regional supporters: Israel and the US.

In order to obtain a just and lasting peace, democratic and social rights, it is necessary to defeat them and achieve a single, secular, non-racist, democratic and socialist Palestine, within the framework of the Socialist Revolution in the Middle East.
