Around the world, new, more massive and more frequent protests are rising up to stop the genocide in Palestine. Mass mobilizations, university camps and flotillas seek to break the blockade and are shaping an increasingly radicalized global movement. Learn about the background of this naval initiative, with the participation of Cele Fierro from MST Left Front, and the challenges ahead.
Despite the far-right’s campaign to determine that common sense implies being in favor of Israel, movements around the world in defense of the Palestinian people remain steadfast. Economic and political power worldwide is complicit in the ongoing genocide, but Palestinians around the globe have raised their voices alongside other organized groups, demonstrating that popular solidarity is their most powerful weapon of resistance.
It should be noted that the call for a ceasefire continues to gain ground almost two years after the intensification of the massacre carried out by the State of Israel. The resistance of children, adults and the elderly in the Gaza Strip inspires actions, protests and speeches by artists and media personalities. The BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign strengthens actions that seek to weaken Israel’s military power and economic support, which depends on the resources of multinationals such as Starbucks, McDonald’s, Unilever, among others.
At this moment, genocide is advancing towards the “final solution”, accumulating war crimes confessed by its own military commanders. We are witnessing exponential cruelty. The blockade of water, food and medical equipment, the destruction of hospitals, refugee camps and churches, the murder of children, women and elderly people in humanitarian aid lines and the massive displacement of populations under threat of total extermination are some of the major human rights violations being committed in the region and which, since World War II, were not thought likely to happen again. It is urgent to double actions to stop this ongoing extermination machine.

Global collective actions for Gaza
The protests, which began in some cities in 2023, soon spread around the world. Solidarity mobilized workers who pressured companies to divest from Israel. Mobilization reached students around the world who camped out to demand that universities speak out, especially in the United States, where there are direct links between major universities and Israel. Recently, the strategy of sending flotillas to break the siege on Palestine was resumed.
The attempt to reach Gaza with humanitarian aid by sea is not new. Israel’s tight land and air control, including a food blockade, makes the sea route the only real possibility for aid to reach the Palestinian territory.
- In 2010, the Freedom Flotilla was brutally attacked by Israel in international waters, resulting in 8 dead and dozens injured.
- In 2015 and 2018 other initiatives also failed to make progress and were intercepted. In 2025 there were already two attempts: in the first, in May, the ship was attacked with drones; the crew, which included well-known activists such as Greta Thunberg, was kidnapped and detained by Israeli forces.
- Subsequently, the new flotilla, led by the ship Madleen, was also intercepted.
The Global Sumud Flotilla
Now, a new attempt to break the siege is underway. Right now, thousands of activists from around the world are heading to Gaza for the largest confrontational action against the humanitarian blockade. To increase the visibility of the action, activists, influencers and activists from various causes are joining the fleets to bring aid to the Palestinian people.
From Argentina, we are proud to be represented by comrade Cele Fierro, a militant of the MST and legislator of the City of Buenos Aires for the Left Front, who is part of the delegation that seeks to open, at last, a permanent humanitarian corridor and stop the genocide. This is a big step to build a strong and mobilized international response in defense of a free, democratic, secular and socialist Palestine, as we state from the International Socialist League.
