Today, January 3, 2026, the United States is relaunching the Monroe Doctrine: America for the Americans. A military offensive has captured President Maduro and his wife, who are now on their way to New York where they will be tried. Trump announces a second wave of attacks aimed at wiping out the Chavista high command of the Venezuelan government.

The militaristic imperialist logic is the order of the day to reshape the world stage and ensure that the United States remains the world’s leading power. This policy, in Trump’s hands, has no limits. The discourse that he will try to stop wars only conceals the policy that he will put in the foreground, the wars that do interest him and that have to do with his immediate interests, as in the case of Venezuela.

But this is only the first step in the plans of U.S. imperialism. The goal is to put in place a puppet government that will be completely controlled by the Trump administration, which will actually rule. Within these plans, oil under U.S. hands is the central objective.

It is not just a matter of overthrowing and capturing Maduro. Imperialism is here to stay and establish a colonial policy. Trump’s message has been explicit and clear: “We are going to administer Venezuela”, and they expect to do so for a long time, both through the imposition of military power and through investments, especially in the oil sector, which will eventually go to the big transnationals.

Even Trump insisted that a committee led by Marco Rubio will be formed for the direct administration of Venezuela, with the imposition of a government imposed by the US administration of his choice. In this perspective, threats to Cuba were present in the form of direct threats. At this point it cannot be ruled out that the next step will be intervention in Cuba.

It is the indispensable and urgent moment to relaunch the anti-imperialist struggle, to stop the imperialist offensive through the mobilization of the masses. It is the peoples who have to decide on their own destiny and on the governments they want.
