The EU does not want more Afghan refugees

La UE no quiere más refugiados afganos

The bloc intends to have them contained by neighboring countries in Central Asia. The powerful despise those most in need.

The orchestrated propaganda cannot hide the fact that inhuman walls are still being built. Nor that complicity is being bought to avoid a new migratory wave. Refuge and asylum are rights to be defended. Only a socialist world without borders can eradicate imperialist and capitalist barbarism.

Horror in Kabul

US imperialism and NATO suffered a hard blow and had to flee. With the Taliban in power, panic of reprisals spread. Dramatic scenes swept the world. Parents handing over their babies to unknown soldiers. Thousands of people crowded at Kabul airport and on the runway, trying to climb onto any plane. Some of them lost their lives falling from the landing gear they had desperately clung to. Then the bombing in which dozens of people died.

False promises

The collapse aroused feelings of solidarity towards the Afghan people, women and children. The bourgeois governments were forced to respond. Hand in hand with the horror came lies.

They said they would not abandon those who wanted to leave to save their lives. In the first flights they embarked the closest collaborators. However, later they warned that they would not be able to take as many people as they should. Thus the “concern for Afghans in distress” vanished.

Success?

August 31 was the deadline the Taliban gave the Americans, the UK and NATO to withdraw. When the withdrawal was completed, the governments involved congratulated themselves on the “success” of an operation that left thousands of people to their fate. And they went about arranging complicity.

Recruiting policemen

Although the EU keeps talking about humanitarian solidarity, it does not act accordingly. Its aim is to prevent a new migratory wave, like the one in 2015. For this reason, European interior ministers issued a communiqué urging to “reinforce the capacities” of Afghanistan’s neighbors to take in refugees. In return they would provide economic “aid” of 600 million euros for “border control in the face of illegal immigration and terrorism.”

The operation would include countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan that keep their borders closed. The European Commission would grant an additional 300 million to be distributed to refugees and 200 for direct aid.

Far from welcoming

A fraternal welcome in Europe does not seem to be visible anytime soon. While 46,500 Afghans are seeking asylum in Austria, the government announced that it will continue with deportations. The German airlift stopped at 4,000 of the 40,000 people it would remove. The US government is negotiating to send 4,000 refugees to Colombia. The richest countries are acting shamefully. The imperialist powers continue to build walls.

Solidarity

Against Taliban barbarism and imperialism, we express our solidarity with the Afghan working people and women. With the migrants who in different countries are mobilizing demanding to be recognized as refugees and claiming for their families. The governments have to break relations with the Taliban without aligning with the United States. All the borders of the world must be opened to receive Afghans in need.

In the face of barbarism, socialism. In Afghanistan it was shown once again that no imperialists should be trusted, nor their governments or armies. The false promises they make are at the service of mounting intrigues, fomenting wars of expansion and plunder. Socialism in a world without borders is the only solution to defeat the barbarism of the exploiters, oppressors and fundamentalist fanatics.
