Peru: Killer transnational Repsol Corporation Out!

Killer of species killer and exploiter of workers

The Spanish multinational energy and petrochemical company caused a disastrous spill of 6,000 barrels of crude oil on the coast of Ventanilla -in the Callao region- north of the province of Huaral, in the Lima region, beginning on Saturday, January 15 when a ship unloaded the hydrocarbon at the La Pampilla Refinery of the Repsol company, affecting some 50 kilometers of coastline and at least 1,739 square kilometers of ocean, an enormous number of ecological and environmental damage more disastrous in the small north of the coastal coastline.

These facts show that the activities of oil exploration, production, transport and refining by the La Pampilla Refinery, operated by Repsol, do not demonstrate credibility and responsibility to comply with safety standards in the transfer of oil, minimizing the event by justifying that it is a fairly small spill caused by the high tides of the Peruvian sea. The National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) reported in a statement that the oil spill has affected the National Reserve System of Guaneras Islands, Islets and Points and Islets of Fishermen and the beach in the north of Lima. The company does not have an established plan to quickly remedy the damage caused. In 2013 a similar event occurred, the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA) made the decision to sanction the company for providing information that did not coincide with the facts collected.

President Castillo, as head of state, has taken criminal, administrative, civil and political actions against the company in order to safeguard national maritime sovereignty. He also signed the supreme decree on CAVERO beach that declares the climatic emergency of national interest and said that he will monitor the actions to mitigate the effects of climate change and will be supervised by the Ministry of the Environment. We Peruvians will not stop until we achieve immediate sanction and an oil spill prevention policy is established, we will form a hard barrier against Repsol’s irresponsibility and abuse that cause destruction to our national sovereignty.

In Defense of our marine ecosystem!

Never again ecological catastrophes of the transnationals!
