On the evening of April 29, the Global Sumud Flotilla suffered extremely serious attacks while sailing in international waters near southern Greece. Communications with several ships were cut off; military ships surrounded them, pointed weapons and lasers at them, and Israeli forces intercepted their vessels, including the one with our comrades Cele Fierro and Raúl Lagunas on board. We have lost all communication with them.
This is an unprecedented kidnapping of civilians in the middle of the Mediterranean, near Crete, more than 600 miles from Gaza, far beyond even the arbitrary limits imposed by Israel on the Gaza coast. It is an act of total impunity in European waters, to which the EU should react decisively and not be complicit.
The crew members of several vessels have been illegally kidnapped. Condemnation must be immediate, demanding that governments guarantee the freedom and safety of our comrades who are missing, as well as the protection of the Flotilla and its crew, and that they clarify what happened.
Mobilization and actions cannot be delayed for a single minute until all the activist crew members reappear safe and sound.
